Glenn Gould

As Glenn Gould played the final notes at a Los Angeles concert hall in 1964, nobody in the audience knew that they were hearing his last on-stage performance. At just 32, Gould made the decision to retire from the concert hall and shift his focus toward the recording studio.

It was here that Gould’s genius was fully realized. During this time, his instrument was the recording studio just as much as it was the piano. GLENN GOULD: THE IDEA OF MUSIC explores this period through Gould’s own medium of choice: the radio documentary.

Michael Morreale has teamed up with Kingston documentarian Chris Trimmer to present this fascinating look at Glenn Gould as a pioneering media artist.
